How to Choose a Hair Transplant Clinic in Turkey: A 7-Step Vetting Process

Choosing among hundreds of Istanbul clinics feels overwhelming, but credible clinics share verifiable traits that mills can't fake. You don't need medical training — you need a checklist and the discipline to walk away when answers get vague.

Step 1–2: License and the operating surgeon
First, confirm the clinic holds a Turkish Ministry of Health license and ask for the license number — legitimate clinics provide it without hesitation.
Second, get the full name of the physician who will perform your surgery, verify they are a licensed doctor in Turkey, and ask specifically which steps they perform. In many mills a surgeon 'supervises' several simultaneous patients while technicians do the extraction and channel opening. You want a written statement of who does what.
Step 3–4: Setting and pricing
Ask where the procedure physically happens: a hospital or licensed medical center with an anesthesiologist available beats a converted office or hotel floor. Check the address on a map and look at the building.
Demand a written, itemized quote: graft count range, technique, what's included (hotel, transfers, medication, aftercare), and the total price. 'Today-only' discounts and prices that exist only in chat messages are how bait-and-switch starts.
Step 5–6: Reviews and aftercare
Discount review counts on the clinic's own site and look for reviews with proof of treatment, long-term photos (12+ months), and specifics about the process. A flood of short five-star reviews posted in the same week is a campaign, not a track record.
Ask exactly how aftercare works: first wash, medication protocol, who answers medical questions post-op, and what happens if you develop a complication after flying home. Credible clinics have a written protocol; mills have a WhatsApp number that goes quiet.
Step 7: The contract — and the walk-away rules
Before paying a deposit, get everything above in one written document and check the refund terms. If graft counts, the surgeon's name, or the price change on arrival, that's not a negotiation — it's the scam unfolding, and prepaid patients rarely walk away.
Walk away immediately if: the clinic won't name the surgeon, promises 5,000+ grafts sight-unseen, quotes under €1,500 for a large session, pressures you to book 'today', or refuses written answers. Any one of these is disqualifying.
